Information is doubling every 11 days. To keep pace, society must move forward into new technology, new science, new ways of gathering and disseminating information.

Few of us would mandate going BACK to outdated duplicating equipment or manual typewriters. So why are we mandating our schools to GO BACK to methods and materials that were state of the art when students prepared for jobs that are now becoming extinct?

Today reading, writing and spelling are basics and are becoming more important every year, we can not afford to put our young people at risk by moving back to the outdated methods of literacy teaching that continue to be recycled since the early nineteen hundreds. Although book covers and illustrations may have changed, as you will clearly see, the "multiple guessing" approach of literacy education remains basically stagnant.
